Verizon Gigabit Internet Plan not providing promised speeds

$

Hello Verizon and whoever it may concern,

We pay for the Gigabit Plan which should provide roughly 800 Megabits per second down 800 Megabits per second up. I have been consistently testing and screenshotting those tests for the last few months and all of them end up around 80 Megabits p/s to 100 Megabits p/s. I do these tests around 2am when everyone in my house and most likely my neighborhood is asleep to make sure I am getting accurate readings. I use the Verizon speedtest and I use a cat 8 cable straight into the ONT. We are not getting the internet speeds we are paying for. I have opened multiple tickets about this issue with Verizon support. Every time they say they will have someone contact me, no one does, and the ticket disappears. This has happened twice already, so, I am choosing a different method of communication. Clearly something in my network is configured incorrectly. I believe it is a hardware issue, as, no technician has been able to fix it remotely. Are you sure my network infrastructure has been properly configured for Gigabit Connection? How can I schedule a technician to come examine my home network?

Thanks for your time,

William Creamer

Help with neighbors Fios Line in my yard

One of my neighbors has a Fios line that is going through my driveway and yard for several months now.

We are having some work done in that area and need the line moved or buried. I don't want to have to cut the line on accident. Can you someone let me know who I can call. I can't get through to anyone on the phone because I am not a Verizon customer

Without television service, most routers should work. Before switching to Verizon's routers and extenders, we used Linksys routers in our house without any issues.

Slight tiny correction to what was said to be correct.

Without television service, most RJ-45 WAN port NAT routers should work.

This is important as not all NAT routers have a RJ-45 WAN port. This includes but is not limted to DSL modem (ex Actiontec GT784WNV) combos, Cable modem combos (ex NETGEAR - Nighthawk AC1900), SAT NAT routers, Cell Phone NAT routers.

Why cant I remove a device from my wireless Fios router?

I have some APC "smart" surge protectors, but they work terribly so I'm considering just turning off the wifi part.  Unfortunately, I dont see any way to do that from the plug itself, so I'm looking at the devices connected to my router.  There seems to be no way to delete an active device.

So now I have these old wireless standard surge protectors that I cannot remove from my network and the Fios app is telling me that their old standard is slowing down the devices on my network.  How do I delete these two "smart" devices?  I can block them, but it still shows them as connected and just blocks traffic.

How Do I Use a G1100 as an Extender with the G3100?

Are the directions for converting a G1100 to become an extender for a G3100 still available?  I replaced my G1100 with a G3100 and returned a WCB6200Q Network Extender.  I'd like to use my old G1100 in place of the Network Extender.

If the router sees the UPSs actively connected, that might be the reason that they cannot be removed. Does APC have the instruction guide for the UPSs available for download? If so, check to see if there is a way to disable the Wi-Fi functionality. Once that has been done, reboot the router and see if they can be delisted.

The other option would be to remove the UPSs completely, move them far away from the router, reboot the router and see if they appear as offline.

G3100 change local static ip address

I have a G3100 router. One of my devices is set up to have a local static ip address, i.e. 192.168.1.175. How do I change it so it's local static ip address can be different, i.e. 192.168.1.150

The device does not show up when I go to Advanced -> Network Settings -> IPv4 Address Distribution -> DHCP Connections

(I assume because it is no longer given a local dynamic IP via DHCP)

Thanks!

Well that might depend on how that Static IP was setup.

a) Manually. REF https://portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm -> Select your OS and Version

b) Or by telling the NAT router to your give a given MAC/Physical/Hardware Address, the same IP Address each time.

REF to the manual/User's guide for that NAT router

https://www.verizon.com/supportresources/content/dam/verizon/support/consumer/documents/internet/fios-router-user-guide.pdf

Advanced -> Network Settings -> IPv4 Address Distribution -> DHCP Connections -> Add Static Connection. Seems to be page 146 of 191 pages of that REF PDF file.

Re: Replace ONT Battery Backup with UPS

The ONT has a back up battery that is 12V at 7.2Ah. Any UPS you use should have at least that capacity. No need to calculate the draw from the ONT, Engineers already did that and put in the proper back-up battery for that unit.

Internet was working fine, disconnects this morning, nothing but red fail light on ONT

Around 10AM this morning my Fios internet disconnected abruptly, for no rhyme or reason...now nothing but a red FAIL light on the ONT after numerous power cycles and reboots. No bad weather, no power outages today, everything was fine. I checked my fiber lines outdoors...no kinks, broken wires, signs of rodent damage, yet no Fios internet. Lines and equipment are all new as the Fios service was not available in my neighborhood until September 2022, which was when I had Fios installed. Verizon can't get a tech out here until 12/7, apparently this is the 1800s and service repair appears to be on horseback.

Is there anything else I can possibly try to get the ONT back up and running? Down and out for nearly 4 days w/o internet service seems like something you only experienced with dial-up in the AOHell days of the early 1990s. Any suggestions appreciated.

Port forward guest network device

I'm trying to set up a home server, following up on some previous conversations, I was able to hijack the built-in guest network to act as a separate VLAN for my server. I want my server to be reachable from the external network however I'm running into some issues with port forwarding. I found one other discussion asking about this, but this was for the G1100, and I have the G3100. I also have a wired ethernet connection. Currently it seems like any connection  in or out of the guest network is getting filtered. I tested by using netcat to listen on a socket and enable port forwarding. If the server is in the main network I can connect to the server with no problem, but if the server is in the guest network then it looks like the packets get dropped (no syn-acks). Does anyone know for certain what's causing this, and if there is a way around it?

If you subscribe to any other service (landline and/or television) are those services down? I would reach out to Verizon in the morning to obtain an update and try to escalate if possible.

Nope, in fact I still had my old Spectrum cable modem (had Spectrum service for nearly 15 years at my residence), called them up and had their 1 Gig service reactivated within a few minutes. Being down w/o internet service in this day and age, where large numbers are working from home (myself included) is unacceptable. Fortunately I had a backup having the old cable modem at my disposal.

I'll reach out to Verizon again in the morning, as a service outage should take priority.
