I realize it doesn't help with your current issue but I highly reccomend moving to another email service. (gmail, yahoo, outlook.com)

1. They tend to be more reliable than even the best ISPs.
2. If you ever change from Verizon, you won't lose your email.
3. They tend to have more features.

Also, since Verizon supports POP, many email services (such as gmail) allow you to import any old mail. The downside is that you have to deal with ads which annoy some people.
