Thanks for your well-researched answer to my problem my east coast friend. ADT did offer a solution, which was to install a wireless system in place of the current system contracted for. However, it would essentially mean bypassing the hard-wired system (already in place) and having to install "boxes" on the doors and windows to enable a wireless system.
I do have to say the ADT technician worked for over an hour trying to find a solution, and I was never able to get through to someone from Verizon - I was on terminal hold until I finally gave up.
