There is no solution, but there is a reason.  You cannot connect the adapter to the switch in the usual sense of these words.  That is, the adapter cannot be in the network "behind" the switch, which is what you are implying based on what you have written.

 

However there is no reason that you cannot connect the switch to the adapter to gain more Ethernet ports.  Simply fit the adapter as before when it functioned properly, and then use an Ethernet cable from the adapter to the WAN port on the switch (if there is a separate WAN port).  You will be good to go.
