I have the fios gigabit service. when watching a youtube video it lags and loads all the time. I did a speed check via verion website and also speedtestcom. both say download speed between 5 and 7 mbps but upload is at 900. I tried using 3 different ethernet cords , same issue. unplugged the ethernet and used the wifi and got the same results. this is on a dell desktop 2 years old. now when I use my galaxy s7 on wifi it says the speed is like 800 mbps. any thoughts.
very low download speeds
Re: Extending WiFi network
The WCB6200Q extenders are pretty good and will help your wifi coverage.
It will work fine with your Firesticks as will any extender as long as the signal is good.
They can be wired with ethernet or coax.
If you are using a Verizon router then it will clone the SSID/WPA2. If you are using a non-Verizon router you can configure the SSID to whatever you want.
Moving floor to floor will depend on the device. I find for example, a Galaxy with move faster than an iPhone. If you toggle your wifi off then back on your device should grab the strongest signal.
As far as adding one or two and the best location. That will vary from one house to the next. If you have an Android smart phone you can download a wifi analyzer app. Otherwise just try to place them as central as possible.
Re: very low download speeds
Sounds like the issue is your Dell if the Galaxy is getting 800 mbps. Do you have another computer to try a speedtest?
Re: Fios gigabit and slow loading websites
I tried both 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8
The speed test was performed on Verizon's speed test (the same one the installation tech had me use when he installed Fios)
I just performed another speed test and got 799DL and 648UL
I have switched to Chrome and websites load a bit faster than Safari
It seems that the slowest websites are forums - just now, in Chrome, it took this website: www.thegearpage.net 11 seconds to load
Re: Cannot get an internet connection
Thank you for your reply. Sorry for my delay in replying- I only just saw it. Anyway, my laptop was not the problem, which I was pretty sure of even before the problem was fixed as I was able to access the internet on it through an Xfinity hot spot. In any event, it turned out that Verizon's network was down. I don't understand why I was able to access my wifi through my tablet and not my laptop and thought the Verizon rep (who I finally did speak to after a 3 hour wait and my hanging up and calling back) was putting me on, but she opened a ticket, let me know when it was fixed and the connection came back so I guess she was right. Just another Verizon mystery. Thanks again for your attempted help though. I'll hang on to your instructions for the next time just in case.
Re: Gigabit connection very slow
I have the same issue... paying for, and relying on, 1 GB interspeed (we work from home and rely on the internet for business) and now several times throughout the day, I’m seeing speeds at 35 +-10 download and 35 +-10 upload and these speeds using Verizon’s speed check.
So, who’s ripping off who by selling a service that cannot be provided? Is this an issue with Comcast, et.al.?
Question about ethernet / coax connectability
Hello all. I have FIOS gigabit internet only -- no tv.
There is a Cat-5 ethernet cable coming into the family room on the first level of my house. It connects to a Quantum router. A coax cable runs from the router and into the wall.
I want to move the router upstairs.
My question: do I need the router as the access point for the Cat-5 ethernet, or is there a way to bypass the router completely and use some sort of adapter to connect the Cat-5 ethernet male to the coax male on the wall?
Thanks very much.
Re: Gigabit connection very slow
Verizon's residential terms of service do not guarantee speeds. That's why they use the words "up to" in their literature.
They do have business service that does guarantee speed. It costs a lot more, however if speed is critical to a business, it may be worth it to pay for it.
Good Luck.
Re: Question about ethernet / coax connectability
You need to have a router connected to the ethernet. The router can be Quantum router or you can purchase your own router.
If you want to move the router upstairs you have couple options. You can run ethernet from the ONT to the upstairs. Or you can use a MoCA adapter using the coax in the house. The benefit of using the Quantum router is it will communicate with a MoCA adapter. If you use your own router you will need a pair if MoCA adapters.
Using Google Nest Wifi Router and MOCA Adapter
Hello-
There are a bunch of threads on using your own router - but it seems like most people are continuing to use the Gateway as the MOCA adapter. I am trying to eliminate the extra charge and equipment - so when I set up my Google Nest wifi, I purchased an Actiontec Bonded MoCA 2.0 Ethernet to Coax Adapter (ECB6200) to add on instead of keeping the Gateway.
The internet is working great, my Fios One STBs (all connected via coax) are working - however I have lost the ability to program my DVR remotely and have on-demand and the caller ID pop up. I saw a few threads that said it was possible to save those. However, I could never see the way people did update their settings for it. Does anyone know how that is possible, if it is? And if I were to add an additional STB, could it just connect over WiFi?
FIos Router
I am very dissatisfied with the service I am receiving from FIOS right now. I purchased a router from you in September and It has stopped working already. I spoke to someone in tech support that said the router was defective. He then transferred me to the billing department to see if this could be resolved. This was not resolved to my satisfaction as I was told I needed purchase another $200.00 router. This is completely unacceptable. I have been a customer for nearly 3 years. For a company that proudly states that they "never stop working" for their customer, it has now been my experience that you sell defective routers that stop working after a few months so you can charge your customer again.

Re: paid bill on time and reported to credit bureau as collections
Hi Lawrence, would you please provide me with the contact information for a dedicated specialist who is able to help with a resolution of my issue. It is basically an identical case.

Do you guys know if the g3100 is mesh. I love everything about it and I want to know if I can do a mesh system from it.
Re: G3100 Limits on Static Leases?
There's been a long discussion of this issue over on dslreports. Apparently the router is limited to 10 reservations. You are not alone.

Ping/Lag Spikes over wifi
Hi,
I've been having trouble playing some online games or using applications that require real time data transfers whenever I'm on wifi. Usually applications run fine with low pings: 30ms - 60ms, until I get ping spikes: 300ms - 1500ms every 2 minutes or so. This is a regular occurrence, no matter the time of day though it's typically worse at peak hours. More details:
- This only happens over wifi, never when I'm connected via Ethernet
- This happens on all my devices, including smart phones
- It happens on all kinds of applications: Online videogames (and not just one), skype, facetime, wifi calling
- I've had Vz support come twice on this issue: They replaced both the router and ONT
- Support has also claimed they fixed an issue in their CO
- This issue persists even when the AP is in Line of Sight ~1 meter
- Fios-G1100, 1Gbps subscription
I've used a ping tool on my gateway (wifi router) and I consistently see the ping spike using PsPing
PsPing v2.10 - PsPing - ping, latency, bandwidth measurement utility
Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com
Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Latency Count
1.32 2890
95.22 97
189.12 9
283.02 3
376.92 1
My indoor RF buddy has told me that unlicensed AP radios have to stop all traffic to do a listen sweep every 2 minutes or so in order to comply with an FCC mandate.
Is this what's happening here? It makes sense but I want to hear it from someone more familiar with Verizon's wifi hardware.
Ultimately, my question: is it possible to eliminate these ping spikes over wifi? Do I need to purchase my own AP? Please do not tell me to use a wired connection - I'd like to have the mobility wifi provides.
Thanks.
G3100 - Changing device name in Network status does not work
I just upgraded to fios gigabit internet with the new router G3100. I have about 30+ devices connecting to the network, both via wired and wireless connections. In the Network status details page, As most devices are listed with name "unknown-<Mac Addresss>", I used the drop down option to rename the device. I changed all the 30+ devices and was happy.
The next time the route rebooted after a few days, I realized that all the name definitions I made were lost. This is frustrating.
Is there a way to retain these device names, across a router reboot.
