Yes I have device hardwired, and my router auto flips fro. 2.4 to 5 on its own.   All the lights show good that’s the crazy thing no blinking or red globe.

Literally made an account here to sub to this thread.

Incoming long post...

I have the same router and the same problems as the others in here. The first one we got sent, wouldn't connect at all on boot up so they sent us another one. Now finally I have found people who have the same problem as me. The light on the router turns yellow when it has one of its moments of completely dropping out. I have it wired in to my pc because I game. My friends have literally gotten offline because this thing cuts out so bad when I play. My family can't enjoy a show on Netflix. It lasts for about 30 seconds and then comes back. But it's always unpredictable when it will happen. So I called Verizon, and they said to replace the coaxial cables and make sure they're good. I did everything myself because we are not having a technician come out during the virus and also am not paying $200 the rep told me that it would cost to do diagnostics and to pay the tech for their time. I replaced the coaxials and still cutting out.

Verizon you really dropped the ball on this one hard. The black router we used to have was perfect before you upgraded us to this garbage.

They are supposedly sending us a new version of the same router.  I will update whether it works better.  If not, I will get one of the other options.  When I originally placed the order for the service, the rep suggested I rent the router for a month to see if it improved the coverage range in my house and while I was reluctant, I am glad I did, because I can return it.  I'm almost ready to drop Fios t.v. so I can get a netgear router.

I have the same problem. Although when hard wire I am getting a speed of 52.  Through my router I was getting as low as 9. After spending approx 4 hours with Verizon they claim nothing is wrong.

If you would like to get the full features of the Google Nest router, it is recommended by Google that you plug the Google Nest router directly into the internet coming in. I can assist you with getting you in the right direction but I must ask, do you have Fios TV service?

I contacted Verizon tech support to see if they could do anything. The person performed some "advanced commands" to reset the router. As far as I could tell this didn't help. I received a return shipping label today so I guess I should look for a cardboard box if I decide to send the router back.

Same deal here, made an account to make contact with the community for this. I was looking at other threads with similar issues. I saw your post mentioned replacing coaxial cables, but do you know if there should be an Ethernet cable going from the Verizon box to your router? I only see the coaxial cable attached to mine but I saw a video describing that newer installations have Ethernet cable going from box to router?

A post on DSLreports says Verizon is starting deployment of "FiOS in a box.:  It's a crate with everything in it that the tech leaves on the doorstep and walks the customer through the install process over phone/video chat.

You might want to check with Verizon to see if that's an option for you.

Good Luck.

Gigabit internet slow wifi

I recently upgraded to the gigabit plan for home internet.  Wired I get around 550 down but the wifi is much slower.  I understand wifi will not be as fast but I'm testing at under 70 down right next to the router.  The up speed in these same tests was above 90.  In other parts of the house I am testing below 40 down.  Is this normal for fios gigabit wifi?  Are there ways to at least get my wifi above 100 down.

Your devices are most likely connected to the 2.4 GHz SSID. If are using the Verizon router login and turn off SON and rename the 5 GHz SSID to something unique.

Go to Wireless Settings/Advanced Security Settings/ Other Advanced Wireless Options/Self-Organizing Network Enabled and set to Off.

If your are using a personal router then just connect to the 5 GHz SSID. The 5 GHz will give you considerably faster speed but less range. The 2.4 will give better range but less speed.

Also keep in mind that the gigabit connection is for bandwidth sharing not for any one device to be getting gigabit as it is completely overkill. You only need 25 mbps to stream 4K video.

I am already on the 5g network and the network is shared between 4 people who all have multiple devices.  However, no other people were on the network at the time of the test.

If under 70 on 5 GHz that in not normal. If getting 550 on wired you should be getting closer to 400 on 5 GHz. Have you tried multiple speed test sites and different servers? What devices are you using to test?

Since you said that, here is/are things to check/do.

#1 Some how and way make the Plex Server's IP Address Static. When I said that, I do not mean the external / WAN IP Address - I mean the Internal / LAN / NATTED one.

#2 If that does not fix the issue, please report back what the UPnP setting in the router is set to. At this time, do not change it unless you are sure of what you are doing.

Connecting Coax from ONT to my router

$

I recently ordered Verizon (internet only) and rented a router from Verizon as well. When I went to install my router in my apartment, I saw that just the ONT was in my apartment, not an Ethernet port and coax port like it shows on the directions or how I've had it in other apartments. Do I need to unplug the coax from the ONT in my apartment and then into my router or will I just need to plug the Ethernet cable from my router to the ONT?

If more information is needed I am more than able to provide it, thanks.

That is pretty common in an apartment setup for the ONT to be inside somewhere. Just connect the router to the ONT via coax or ethernet. If your speed is 150 mbps or above it must be on ethernet. A speed of 100 mbps or below can be on coax but may be on ethernet depending on how Verizon activated your data.
