Dropping internet, wired and wireless.    Constant rebooting of router, slow internet when it works, trouble shooting but no issues when doing that.   All the issues.  Just was trying to see if anyone else is having problems with Fios gen.

I would say your Router is bad and call and have verizon replace it.

verizon routers are crap. But if your have their tv  it is necessary to have those services. There are ways to use your own router and if you google it or go to http://www.dslreports.com/verizon you can see under the FAQ the ways to set it up.

barring that it would need to be troubleshooting via verizon.

I don’t have their tv anymore , but I do have tv that relies on the internet.  If I got my own router would I need to get a modem or are most routers combination now a days?

Thanks!  Just posted to VZ Direct @ DSLreports. I noticed several subject lines where others are in a similar situation. At least one customer posted a public success story where VZ did activate the gigabit service and they had the same ONT.  Hoping this works.

Thanks Again!

Re: Fios G1100 router drops wifi/internet connection on wireless devices

Over the past week or so, I've had the same issue on my 2.4GHz network. A bunch of clients on my network all started having issues at the same time (PS3, Google Nest, Roomba, Chromebook, etc). Chatting with Mohammed Fios tech support online was a COMPLETE waste of time. He had the audacity to tell me that they can't trouble shoot client issues. Well, what a coincidence that all these clients are failing at the same time.

I started writing down all of my MAC addresses on the network and noticed that the clients having the issue were my 2.4GHz clients. I googled around and saw some hits about SON (self-organizing networks). It was already off for me. I then decided to change my 2.4GHz channel selection from Auto to a fixed channel. So far so good.

On a side note, when I log into my router at myfiosgateway.com (see side sticker), I took a look at my System Log and Advance Log messages. They are LITTERED with a bunch of DNS errors. I mentioned this to Mohamed and he claimed "you can't always rely on what those tools tell you". What a waste of time. These errors started happening this week probably due to some bad software upgrade. Could this be related to my 2.4GHz issues? I dont know. But spamming the router's CPU with unnecessary load cannot be good.

Re: Issues with G3100 Losing Connection

I have the same issue, And I found out the cause I of it.   My work laptop.  Everything is fine & stable.  But the moment my work laptop connects to network, wireless or Ethernet, it hangs router.

My issue is then every device either looses connection or just internet every minute.  I have 3 other laptops that are fine.  And phones, home devices, desktops, etc.  It's like my laptop starts a denial of service attack the second it's connected.

The solution is to reboot router with laptop on.  As soon as I do that all works normally.  But I shouldn't have to reboot router everyday.  Plus doesn't make sense how device can affect router like this, but this router is doing more than old one.  (Actiontec)

Gladly buy beer to someone who can figure this out.  Work IT updated drivers so far on laptop with no change.   Another possible clue is sometimes the router shows the VPN mac address on the connection screen of the gateway.  Work says that is normal, but my other VPN machine doesn't do that.   I don't want to replace router and this still happens on new one.  What could laptop be doing?  It locked down so I don't have a lot of access to see/change some settings on my own.

Re: G1100 DHCP issues.

I've been experiencing the same issues over the past week with my G1100. On many of my wireless clients, I'd see "Cannot connect to internet". After carefully noting which clients are affected (PS3, Google Nest smoke detectors, 2 iRobot vacuums, Roku TVs), I noticed that it seems to be specific to my 2.4GHz channel. 5GHz and my wired laptop are fine.

So I changed my 2.4GHz channel selection from Auto to a fixed channel to see if it'll work better. So far, I am able to reach everything which is VERY promising.

Tech-support hasnt been much help (factory defaulting my setup). And when I talked to Mohammed via chat, he had the audacity to tell me that the problem was with all of my clients. And then he tried selling me on upgraded service! This made me irrationally upset. I should also note that if I log into my home router (via the sticker on the side), I noticed that the System Log and Advanced Log are getting peppered with error messages that started on April 9th. I suspect they rolled out some bad update. Maybe not "directly" related to my wifi connectivity issues but spamming a low-end, resource constrained little CPU on the router cannot be good.

G1100 Randomly Rebooting (preceded by Wifi Internet Connectivity Issues)

$

Over the past few days, many of my wifi clients have been having internet connectivity / DHCP issues. Debugging this myself, I noticed that this problem appears to be happening on my 2.4GHz network (5GHz and wired are fine). I changed my 2.4GHz channel selection from Auto to fixed and it appeared to be working better until my son complained his video froze again. UGH. I went over to my office and noticed the router rebooting. Fabulous. Yesterday Mohamed tried explaining to me that my clients were the issue and he suggested I upgraded my service. I logged into my router and looked at the SystemLog and this is proof my router was rebooted "by ACS".

Re: Fios issues

FiOS doesn't use modems.  Just routers.

If your router is connected to the ONT via Ethernet WAN, you can use any router you like.  Know that Verizon won't support any issues past the ONT if you don't have one of their routers.  Not typically a problem, but you need to know that if you decide to switch to a non-Verizon router.

If you are currently provisioned for Coax WAN, you can contact Verizon via chat, Twitter support or the VZ Direct forum at dslreports.com and have them switch to Ethernet.  Once you talk to them, it only takes a few minutes to switch.  There should be no charge to switch.  Of course, you'll need to run an Ethernet cable from the ONT's WAN port to the router.  If you can't do that yourself, you'll need to hire someone or wait until Verizon resumes on-site tech visits.

For the record, FiOS is rock solid for me in suburban Philly.  I haven't had any issues with it for the decade or so I've had it, even now.  I use the Verizon G1100 router, as I have their TV service.  That, too, has been a solid performer for me, although the WiFi range isn't as good as the previous Verizon router.

You're talking mostly to other users here.  If you want help from Verizon, try their Twitter support or the VZ Direct forum at DSLreports.com.  They are staffed by their social media support team which often does a better job then the phone support.

We users may be able to give you some pointers.  I'm not sure many of us know what "ACS" means in the router log, though.  It would help to know the router model and if the problem occurs on Ethernet connected devices too.

Any other details you can describe, such as status lights during reboots, might help the user base here give you useful suggestions.

For anyone finding this in the future, don't give up!  The problem really was on Verizon's side, and I was finally able to convince them to fix it.

I called the Verizon Fios support line (800-837-4966) once again, and got lucky with a far more helpful person who agreed to send someone out after running the usual unhelpful remote tests he was required to run.

I ended up with a different (excellent) technician who spent something like 4 or 5 hours troubleshooting in person.  He eventually contacted a higher level support person, and temporarily left me with a Verizon router that he claimed would be used to remotely analyze my connection.  I was told I wouldn’t be charged for it, but I was.  After contacting the technician who very nicely left me a phone number, the router was picked up and my account was credited with the right amount about 2 months later.

The solution (in the technician’s words) was “changing the pon card in the central office”.  My connection is now very consistent and I’m extremely pleased!

I have Ethernet And coaxial coming not my router.   And for the most part I haven’t had to many issues with Fios just lately it’s been terrible and it’s magnified because my wife has to work form home and my kids are home schooling via computer.   I can’t get any answer when I talk to anyone for. Verizon because from them to my router the speed is silly...but from router to device it’s slow even wired.   I just can’t get any answers and if it is the router then I need to change it ASAP .

Are you saying you have a router ("firewall") between the ONT and the G1100?  Do you want to use the G1100 as a WiFi access point only?  If so, login to it, turn of it's DHCP server and use a LAN-to-LAN connection between your router and the G1100.  You'll need a DHCP server in your router, of course.

If you're trying to do something else, post a few more details about your equipment and what you want to accomplish.

Yes. If the G1100 is hooked up in a LAN-to-LAN setup, the other three ports remain usable. You can also use the MoCa abilities, and the Wi-Fi if you want. The router just won't be the one handing out DHCP, DNS, etc.

Re: Can you add second router to setup VPN with the G3100?

$

It's possible, but the key question is, do you have FiOS TV, or just Internet? If you have just Internet, you can take the G3100 out of the mix and just connect your own router directly to the ONT's Ethernet port. Getting an IP just requires performing a DHCP Release of your WAN IP before you turn off the G3100, and use DHCP to the ONT once the SonicWall is hooked up.

Otherwise, an alternative would be to port forward in the G3100, the required ports for your VPN to work to the SonicWall's "Outer" interface hosting your VPN. Your "Inner" interface will be a connection back to your home network. The SonicWall will dish out IP addresses only to the VPN, from another subnet (192.168.2.0/24 for example).
