Re: New Fios 200/200 but buffers when streaming

Thanks for the info but i am not on verizons router. I am using Google OnHub and i tested my speed through Verizon app and OnHub app and it says 300/300 speed but it just buffers intermittently when streaming tthrough wifi. The ethernet  runs directly into the router so could it just be fios being incapable to handling streaming through Netflix? Cause browsing lags and connection drops at times too.

I had the same issue.  I called Verizon and they told me not to pay the bill. Go the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint. You will see many complaints there. In fact, the person who answered you is probably a bot from CMR. It is a scam.

If you are getting 300/300 the issue must either be on Verizon’s end or the TV’s wifi is the issue. Try streaming Netflix on your phone next to the router and see if it buffers.
You only need 25 mbps to stream 4k. I have 100/100 and 2-3 people could be streaming at any given time with no issues.

Did you try turning off the wifi in the G1100? If off the wifi light will also be off.

I did not try that. I am back to original settings now and not in bridge mode. Honestly, I’m tempted to throw this google WiFi system in the trash for giving me all these headaches over the last 5 days.

how would I do what you suggest and what’s the benefit of it?

You mentioned in your first post about channel interference. If Google and the Verizon router are on the same wifi channel they will interfere with each other.
Login to the Verizon router and go to the wireless settings and disable the 2.4/5 GHz radios. Without looking I believe it’s under Basic settings.

Wouldn’t this basically put it into bridge mode? That’s what I unchecked the first time and then the globe went red but the WiFi signal was still there.

talked to fios again tonight and they suggested I buy or rent the new g3100 router and said that should fix my issues. I found one brand new on eBay for $245. They want $300 from Verizon.

I have the same issue. Everything’s working fine, but the lights went off shortly after connecting the cables. Same thing after a reboot.

G3100 router dropping internet connection

My wife called that the Internet was out. When I returned home around 6 pm I reset the router and the problem resolved. I copied some of the log information showing the problem occurred around 9 am this morning. The first dnsmasq err line is repeated continuously up to the router restarting.

There is a repeated warning of a possible DNS-rebind attack detected. 192.168.1.89 is the ip address of our Synology NAS.

Anyway, I am interested in whether you can shed any light on what happened. The router (G3100) was sitting with its regular white circle and was supporting wifi connections but no internet connection.

No. Turning off wifi is just disabling the radio. You should always disable the Verizon router wifi if you are using a mesh network. If both routers are using the same channel that close to each other they will be interference.
The white wifi light should be off when it’s disabled.
Bridge mode would be disabling the DHCP server in the Verizon router. Then changing it’s IP address from 192.168.1.1 to something in the Google’s subnet range.
A double NAT is not an ideal situation but won’t necessarily cause your wifi to drop. When you notice your wifi drop are you able to hardwire a laptop to one of the LAN ports? This way you can tell whether your internet connection is dropping of it’s a wifi issue.

I don’t have anything that I’m able to hard wire with an Ethernet port. My wife and I use MacBook pros and don’t have an adapter to run Ethernet. Everything else we have is also Apple and doesn’t have a port. I wish I did, but it’s so quick when it happens it’s only down for 1-2 minutes before popping back up, which is why I think it’s interface.

I guess I could try disabling the WiFi on the fios side of things. I haven’t tried that yet.

Never have I dealt with such poor customer service.

Disabled WiFi on the g1100 and the google WiFi seems to be running faster and better. Only thing is I realized I can’t connect WiFi to my fios one tv boxes now. Luckily 2 out of the 3 run on coax and are fine. The last one is downstairs and I barely use it so I guess not a huge issue. Let’s see how this new approach goes today.

They lied!!!  The first guy when I called to have the service disconnected mentioned the fee will be waived if I re-connect with a new contract.  However, when the new service is all installed, the setup fee is still showing up.  I called Verizon again, and of course, the second guy claimed that he saw no record of the setup fee should be waived nor does he have the authority to waive it.  This is bad business practice!  I'm furious because why would Verizon train their staff to trick their customers into signing with business when they have no intentions of keeping up what they say and purposely not recording them in the log so that leaves the customers defenseless.  This type of behavior is got to stop and bad for business because eventually customers will catch on and leave.  I rather have the staff be honest with me than tricking me into signing for something that makes me have to call back while Verizon staff knows they can't honor on purpose!
