Re: Bridge G1100 So Your Router Becomes Primary

I like your setup.  ONT to Orbi WAN, Orbi LAN to G1100 LAN, G1100 coax to STBs.  Does this mean your G1100 basically acts as an unmanaged switch?  Can I use the remaining 3 LAN ports on the G1100 for other wired devices and have the DHCP still done by the Orbi?

You can if you already have a ethernet connection at your service address.

if not you can call verizon to switch you over.
I notice you have coaxial (MOCA) in the Router. So I would call 1-800-VERIZON and have them swap you over.

thanks. That is one of the videos is why I posted. He says he has near gigabit (950) service. I can't fully make out his model number but it looks right.

Verizon is saying they can not upgrade me because I need a new ONT in my home, and due to COVID-19 they are not sending anyone into homes. I suspect their database has the wrong ONT box listed for me and I have everything I need.

UBNT ER-X added but Inactive. Do I need to call Verizon?

I just purchase a UBNT ER-X edge router and plug it into my Verizon M1424W router via LAN port (hardwired). I can see the device on the network and DHCP assigns it an address, but its status is 'Not Active'. Connectivity tests fail.

A friend told me I need to call Verizon to enable the device (with the MAC address). Do I need to do that just for the device to go active?

Fios router won't allow google.com to appear in any browser

Every so often I cannot access any google site. I just get a "site is unreachable" page instead. This happens on all our devices, iMac, MacBook, iphones, etc, and in all browsers (tried chrome, firefox, brave, opera). If I try to access google using a cellular connection, everything works as it should. So the problem seems to be with fios, not mac, as far as I can tell. If I reset the fios router, the problem goes away for a spell. The same thing happened a few months ago, Verizon swapped my router and the problem disappeared.

Instead of rebooting router, log in to it and try to renew wan ip.

Or do a release and get new IP.

Sometimes a certain network can have an issue.

Next time this happens, open Terminal on your Mac and try pinging Google.com from it. The process is pretty simple. Go to Finder -> Applications -> Utilities and open Terminal. In Terminal, type "ping www.google.com" and see if you are getting any replies back. Press Control + C to stop the command to get your final ping result.

Yes that ONT is capable of gigabit. You might have better luck with VZ Direct at dslreports.com or @VerizonSupport via Twitter. Explain you situation to them. If already on ethernet and with that ONT then you don’t need a tech visit or ONT upgrade.

No. The Ubiquiti routers and the FiOS router share the same IP address 192.168.1.1 so you will have to change the default gateway IP of either router. Are you trying to eliminate the FiOS router? Are you connected to the ONT via ethernet? Do you have FiOS TV?

jonjones: It looks like Ethernet WAN is used as there is a cable connected to the white WAN port.  Coax is likely for FiOS set-to-boxes.

The router is not provisioned by Verizon.  You can switch at any time.

Did your old router have an Ethernet cable plugged into the WAN port?  If so, you'll need that in addition to coax on the new router.

MOCA Network - Network Extender Issue

$

Hi,

I started out with gigabit, internet only service at my home.  One Wifi Network Extender connected via coax (for our TV connection in the living room).

Due to the onset of the coronavirus, I moved a work iMac, NAS, and printer into our newly designated home office space.  Only wiring into the room is coax... so I purchased a FIOS Network Extender (no wifi - has 4 ethernet ports).  Powers up fine, all ethernet connections are working and appear to be communicating fine locally.  I'm currently using all of the ports for the computer, NAS (x2), and printer.

The problem - the coax light goes on and off intermittently (approximately 19 seconds on, 17 seconds off, timing doesn't seem to fluctuate) - internet works when it's lit, doesn't when it's not.  I've checked connections and splitters - everything seems fine, recent hardware, labeled MOCA compatible.  I even tried a new line from basement to this network extender.  The line from the router splits once, creating two "live" runs - one to our living room, the other outside and up to this 2nd floor office room.  The coax runs are not near electrical.

What else could I be missing?  There is a device (I'm assuming the ONT) that does not have the Moca light lit... is there a setting there?

Could this be a faulty Network Extender?

Thanks for any advice.

I have to wonder how they deal with the whole "laser light can blind you" issue.

I'm guessing with FiOS in-a-box the tech disconnects the drop fiber before delivering the equipment, talks the customer through the connection and then connects the fiber and completes provisioning.

Until they can come up with a way to avoid laser light exposure without a trained tech, I doubt they will have a self install for ONTs.

Moving the ONT means I have to be issued new *fixed* IP addresses?!

In my office, we are trying to get our ONT (and router, but whatever) to a different room in the same office suite and are being told that while they are happy to do it, it will mean losing our fixed IP addresses and being issued with new ones.  Is this really true?  If so, how can this possibly be justified?

Using Nest home wifi router and FIOS router for moca

$

My setup is as follows:

Nest home WIFI router connected to the Verizon ONT via ethernet cable.  This gives me my wifi throughout my home.  Seems to be working great.

Verizon Actiontec M1424WR Rev.1 router is connected to the ONT via coax.  It is also connected to my Nest wifi router via ethernet.  The ethernet cable goes from LAN port on Nest router to WAN port on Actiontec router.  This gives me the moca connection which allows the on demand features to work on Verizon's set top boxes.

In order to upgrade my wifi speed from 100 Mbps to 200 Mbps verizon is making me return the Actiontec router.  I tried to use a motorola moca adapter but that didn't work.  My new plan is to buy a router on eBay to replace the Actiontec router which verizon is forcing me to return or pay $100 for unreturned equipment.

My questions are:

1.  Will the router I buy on eBay work immediately or do I need to program it to work with my verizon account?

2.  Since I am only using this verizon router for the moca connection does it matter what kind of verizon router I buy?   Should I try and buy a better Verizon router then the Actiontec that I have now?  Maybe a verizon quantum router?

Hello guys,

So I was able to contact Verizon today.

The rep on the phone told me that they will 100% need to send someone out for this issue. Just wonderful.

This will be interesting. Verizon is doing something where the technician will not enter a home due to COVID. They claim they will do everything they possibly can outside of the client's home and if any work were to be done inside the home, then the technician will thoroughly instruct you on what to do. The rep on the phone told me that they will look at the box across the street from me (which I don't know what that will do but okay).

So now I am looking at a possible $99 charge for this technician if they need to go "further" in their diagnostics I was told. Which I am not paying. After calming myself, I asked this fast-talking rep as to why, after 13 years of having service, that the internet decides to be difficult and the answer was "because the wiring is so old that the new technology can't handle it". So if that was the case, then why was all of this new technology sent to us (FIOS TV One and G3100 Router) if the existing wiring couldn't handle it? Unreal man.

As far as the charge for the technician goes, I can decline any "paid" work that the tech will want to charge for. It is really up to the technician as to what they want to charge for. Have to wait until April 19th to have this person come out.

Will come back with updates. Stay strong and safe folks.

G1100 DHCP issues.

G1100 1.03 router I had on the shelf. I recently upgraded to 1GB service and had a sonicwall in place for a couple years. Decided to use the g1100 to get full speed.

The device worked for most DHCP  but over time it stopped handing out addresses. I see the device detects the device in DHCP log but doesn't assign address. If I set a reservation or static IP it works fine but not DHCP.

Any ideas?

Is 1.03 still the firmware you're running? How long has the router been plugged in for? Sounds like you need a firmware update.

You don't have any managed switches dealing with VLANs do you?
